WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR SOUTH AFRICAN SAFARI?

Temperatures in South Africa can range from summer highs of around 104°F (40°C) to cold winters of close to 32°F (0°C) and can either be very dry or extremely wet or humid. However, for your convenience we add a printable checklist with suggestions on what to pack to ensures that you're prepared for all eventualities, regardless of which way the weather decides to turn during your Safari.
What RIFLES & CALIBERS to bring on my hunt?
Indeed, this to be a long debate. The most important rule in this case, bring the rifle(s) you are most comfortable with. It is important to spend time on the shooting range before your African hunt commences. You will sight-in your rifles prior to commencing the hunt. However, you must be familiar with your rifle.
Our recommendation is that a 300 Win Mag and a .375 would cover a lot of your needs. If you intend to hunt more of the small to medium Plains Game species a .308 or maybe 7mm Rem Mag could be good choice. However, this not to be a requirement - it is merely a suggestion. If you intend to hunt any one of the Big Five, it is required by law that a .375 is the minimum caliber with which you will be permitted to hunt.
If you do not wish to travel with your own firearms, you are welcome to make use of one of the rifles of the professional hunter accompanying you. They have a selection of appropriate calibers available. These rifles are available for your convenience at a small fee.

HUNTERS TRAVELING WITH RIFLES TO SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa requires a temporary import/export permit for firearms and ammunition when traveling to South Africa.
Familiarize yourself with the requirements for getting your firearms imported into RSA. The process is not overly complicated. However, it is a bit involved. You can complete the process completely on your own and file the forms with South African Police Service (SAPS) and save some expense, or you can hire a Clearing Agent to do it for you. If you hire a Clearing Agent you will incur some expense, but you will have an advocate if any glitches develop, and you can then focus on a part of the planning process that is more enjoyable than filing government paperwork.

In any case, preparation of, and the actual filing of your importation paperwork is another step in the planning process that should not be delayed.

For your convenience we add a document with all the Steps involved when temporarily
importing a rifle into South Africa for hunting purposes.
